 NCBS Statement on Haiti

The National Council of Black Studies (NCBS) expresses its solidarity with our Brothers and Sisters in the Republic of Haiti in its current ordeal. Haiti has long stood as an inspiration for its glorious revolution against slavery, its support for the liberation of other captive Africans and oppressed people in the 19th century and its resilience in overcoming foreign domination and dictatorship. We are also indebted to what the history and culture of Haiti has contributed to African-Americans, the African World and humanity. We are certain that the spirit of the Haitian people will overcome this crisis. We stand with you in the relief and recovery effort. The motto of NCBS is academic excellence and social responsibility. We realize our principle of community engagement is not confined to the borders of the United States. We are committed to the endeavor to rebuild Haiti on the principles of human rights and self-determination.

We are all Haitians
