 | As part of our community service engagement, the National Council for Black Studies (NCBS) is working in collaboration with the Lower 9th Ward NENA (Neighborhood Empowerment Network Association). We are looking for volunteers to aid in projects to assist NENA and the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, LA in its recovery efforts.
About Lower 9th Ward NENA NENA utilizes an innovative resident-based approach to the comprehensive rebuilding of the Lower Ninth Ward, providing services and implementing sustainable programs in community outreach, case management, design and construction administration, home and school rebuilding, and economic development.
NENA works with hundreds of volunteers to revitalize the Lower Ninth Ward. In June alone, roughly 250 volunteers worked, through NENA, on our neighbor's front lawns and houses. Volunteers come from a wide variety of places including Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, California, Texas and Massachusetts.
As a joint initiative with the NCBS 34th Annual Conference held in New Oleans, LA March 17-20, 2010, we are soliciting volunteers for March 16-18, 2010. Please fill out the online application and some one will be in contact with you. Thank you for your support.
